Najafi emphasized:

Utilizing renewable energies is a necessity

The head of the Health Committee of the Islamic City Council of Tehran emphasized the need for Iran to move towards using renewable energies after participating in the "Review of the Achievements of the UN Climate Change Conference 2023 in the UAE" session.

Sudeh Najafi, a member of the Council"s Board of Directors, during the specialized session on reviewing the achievements of the UN Climate Change Conference 2023 in the UAE, while emphasizing the use of renewable energies, congratulated Clean Air Week and stated: "This conference was divided into two sections, blue and green. The blue section was dedicated to high-level governmental meetings, while the green section consisted of extensive grounds and diverse exhibitions on various topics. Unfortunately, due to some coordination issues, the city management council was only present in the green section and was unable to benefit from the blue section."

She continued: Climate change has been referred to as a global crisis in recent years in all countries. In Iran, especially in the past three decades, we have faced specific environmental problems due to rising temperatures. The water shortages we face across the country and the subsequent land subsidence are all critical issues that require solutions.

Najafi said: Climate problems have both natural and non-natural factors, and human-induced non-natural factors also influence natural environmental processes. These factors compel all countries, especially Iran, to inevitably use renewable energies.

The head of the Health Committee of the Islamic City Council of Tehran stated: Many countries have taken steps towards using these energies to the extent that today, 47 countries meet over 50% of their electricity needs from renewable energies, which is beneficial for countries in terms of security, environmental sustainability, and the economy.

Najafi added: According to the opinions of experts and specialists, although Iran has suitable oil and gas resources, it should move towards using renewable energies. Governments have an impact in this regard, but we should not overlook the role of the people, intellectuals, and grassroots organizations. The demands of the people can compel the government to utilize these resources, and this is something we must undoubtedly do in the coming years.

At the end she noted: The fifth and sixth development plans had provisions for using renewable energies, but unfortunately, sufficient attention was not paid to this matter. The Tehran Municipality has initiated actions in this regard, and the city council also supports these programs. We hope that these measures will be implemented, and the day will come when a significant portion of Tehran"s energy needs will be met through renewable sources.
