During the meeting of the Chairman of Tehran City Council with Chinese officials, the following issues were raised:

Chamran: Today, air pollution is a challenge for metropolises around the world. / Wanming: China is ready to contract for the production of electric vehicles.

The Chairman of the Islamic City Council of Tehran stated that many major cities in the world are suffering from severe air pollution. He mentioned, "Integrating electric buses into the public transportation network of the city can be highly effective in controlling and alleviating this major issue in metropolitan areas."

This morning the Islamic City Council of Tehran hosted a 10-member delegation of Chinese officials. The meeting, hosted by Mehdi Chamran, the Chairman of the Islamic City Council of Tehran, aimed to enhance the level of relations and deepen friendship between Tehran and Beijing.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mehdi Chamran welcomed the high-ranking Chinese delegation to the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Tehran City Council. He stated, "We are pleased that Iran and China have tightly intertwined relations and deep friendships that have lasted for centuries. We believe that the continuation of this friendship and intimacy can pave the way for both countries and bring about positive outcomes. The good perspective and strong communication between the two governments and nations have contributed to the effectiveness of the 13-day trip of senior Tehran city officials, resulting in the signing of valuable agreements and memorandum of understanding, particularly in the transportation sector."

He added, "We hope that the implementation process of these MOUs and contracts will be put into operation quickly, and we will witness further cooperation."

The chairman of the Islamic City Council of Tehran referred to the origin of the contracts signed between Iran and China, stating, "These contracts are derived from the comprehensive 25-year cooperation agreement between the two countries." He highlighted that Tehran Metro, with its approximately 270-kilometer rail network, possesses one of the largest transportation networks in the Middle East. Therefore, the contract for the construction of 791 Tehran Metro carriages and the increase in the number of carriages to 1050, which will be jointly produced in both China and Iran, is considered a positive aspect of this cooperation.

Chamran further mentioned the contract for the construction of approximately 2,000 electric buses, stating, "Today, major cities are suffering from severe air pollution, and we are witnessing pollution in Tehran as well. Integrating electric buses into the public transportation network can be highly effective in controlling and alleviating this issue in metropolitan areas. The presence of electric taxis and motorcycles will also contribute significantly to reducing urban pollution."

He emphasized that the proposed contract is specifically for Tehran, but other cities in Iran have also expressed readiness to sign contracts with China in this field. He added that achieving this goal can only be accomplished through close cooperation between the governments and peoples of both countries.

Regarding the contract for the construction of a 5,000-ton waste incinerator by China, the head of the Islamic City Council of Tehran expressed hope that burning waste and converting it into other products would be one of the targeted actions. He expressed the desire for the contract to soon enter the operational phase, leading to its construction and operation in Iran.

Chamran further emphasized that the longstanding policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran is based on effective and continuous communication with the People"s Republic of China. He called for the elevation of cooperation in other areas, particularly in the cultural sector.

Yang Wanming, the President of Chinese People"s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, expressed his satisfaction with his first trip to Iran and his presence in the Tehran City Council building, where he met with the city management. He commended the efforts of Mehdi Chamran in organizing this meeting and stated that Tehran and Beijing are sister cities. They believe that this initiative can provide a basis for closer development and cooperation between the two countries. He said, "Considering that some time ago, the mayor of Tehran traveled to China with a high-level delegation and, in addition to participating in the Belt and Road Construction Summit, had fruitful meetings with relevant Chinese authorities, which led to the signing of numerous contracts in various fields."
