Islamic City Council of Tehran Approved:

Design and Construction of "Quran Gateway" in Tehran

In recent years, the world have repeatedly witnessed disrespect towards the sacred tenets of Islam, which has not only targeted the religious beliefs of Muslims but has also been perpetuated with the support or silence of certain global powers. This has occurred under the guise of defending freedom of speech and human rights, particularly in European and American countries. Such insulting actions have not only harmed the religious beliefs of Muslims but can also be seen as a deliberate attempt to undermine the cultural and spiritual identity of nearly two billion Muslims worldwide.

Muslims hold the Holy Quran in the highest regard, considering it the most sacred pillar of their faith. Disrespecting this divine book crosses a significant red line, representing one of the most painful and intolerable forms of insult. This is because it directly targets the deep religious convictions and spiritual sensibilities of Muslims. In recent years, instances of such disrespect have occurred, notably in countries like Sweden and Denmark, where offensive acts against the Holy Quran have been carried out without regard for the religious sensitivities of Muslims.

In response to these affronts and to honor and uphold the sanctity of the Holy Quran, the Islamic City Council of Tehran approved a plan titled "Design and Construction of One of Tehran"s City Gates Named "Quran."" This decision, passed as an urgent two-part motion. Construction of the Quran Gateway serves as a symbolic protest against these actions. According to Mahdi Pirhadi, the head of the city"s Urban Services Committee, the project will involve an international design competition, and efforts will be made to publicize it both domestically and internationally

The Quran Gate of Tehran is planned to be constructed at the southern entrance to the city. This gate will serve as the first symbol encountered by travelers entering Tehran and the last as they leave, playing a vital role in creating a lasting memory of the city.

The purpose of constructing the Quran Gateway in Tehran is to create a symbol that prominently displays cultural, historical, and spiritual concepts at the entrance to Iran"s capital.

Representing Tehran’s Iranian-Islamic identity, the gate will reflect the unifying essence of the Holy Quran and will beautifully display the unique characteristics of the city. It is hoped that, with the grace of Almighty God, this architectural work will be recognized on an international level. In the spirit of solidarity, collaboration, and unity among Islamic cities, we would greatly appreciate your valuable feedback and suggestions, which you are invited to send to the Islamic City Council of Tehran.
