Iran and Armenia have intertwined commonalities
Mehdi Chamran, the chairman of the Islamic City Council of Tehran met Hrachya Sargsyan, the Mayor of Yerevan on January 18 in Tehran and both sides stressed on the role of the constructive interaction between two cities in order to boost bilateral cooperation and expressed their readiness to exchange experiences and expertise in various areas of urban services and affairs.
Stating that the two countries of Iran and Armenia have interwoven relations and commonalities, the mayor of Yerevan said: "Unfortunately, in Armenia, the image of Iran is so limited, so I suggest that a cooperation in the field of tourism should also take place between Tehran and Yerevan.
Hrachya Sargsyan, while appreciating the hospitality and warm welcome, said: "It is my first visit to Iran and according to the relations I could make, I have maintained a positive and constructive attitude towards Iran.
While emphasizing the existence of deep and historical relations between Iran and Armenia, he said: Considering the existence of same challenged in the cities, more cooperation can be provided in order to solve them and by sharing experiences we can pave the way for deepening the relations between the two countries.
The mayor of Yerevan further stated: The history of the two countries has many common and interwoven ties, so it can be said that it is one of the reasons that Armenians living in Iran feel comfortable and safe, consider themselves Iranians and they are making efforts for the progress of Iran.
Stating that the current situation in the region is not good at this time, Yerevan Mayor said: I have the hope that we can overcome the current situation through cooperation.
He pointed to the 2 cooperation documents between Tehran and Yerevan: We signed a document between Yerevan and Tehran about the declaration of sisterhood and a cooperation document to implement some measures and improve the level of cooperation and increase interactions, which we hope will lead to occurrence of good measures.
Sargsyan continued: The first step taken in order to conclude this agreement is the joint dispatch of an expert team from Yerevan to visit Tehran subway and the dispatch of an Iranian expert team to visit the Yerevan subway in order to cooperate in various fields, especially metro.
He emphasized that: "the country of Iran is of great importance to us and we have a serious determination to cooperate with Tehran in order to progress in the field of city management.
At the end, he emphasized: We can provide measures for the presence of tourists in Iran and define the axis of the bilateral cooperation, because the more our understanding of neighboring countries increases, the less complexity we will feel in the relations and communications between two countries will become easier.
