Mehdi Abbasi attended in Metropolis World Congress

Chairman of the Urban Planning and Architecture Commission of Islamic City Council of Tehran participated in 14th Metropolis World Congress & Brussels Urban Summit 2023.

Tehran delegation, Headed by Alireza Zakani, the honorable mayor of Tehran participated in 14th Metropolis World Congress & Brussels Urban Summit 2023, which took place from 12 to 15 June in Brussels, the capital of Belgium.

Mehdi Abbasi, Chairman of the Urban Planning and Architecture Commission of Tehran Islamic City Council and Lotfollah Faruzandeh, Deputy of the Finance and Urban Economy of Tehran Municipality accompanied the mayor of Tehran during this event. 

The member of the Tehran Islamic City Council underlined that many metropolises were surprise at Tehran"s progress in infrastructure development and showed interest in cooperating with the city of Tehran regarding the use of our capacity in engineering knowledge.

He marked that: Fortunately, the summit was held with the participation and cooperation of the metropolises of the world and it was very influential on the knowledge sharing and cooperation of the metropolises to manage urban issues.

He stated that in this meeting, mayors and city managers discussed the issues and challenges in the cities, and continued: Cities are facing many problems in the fields of environment, climate change, lack of per capita and problems of housing and urban economy.

The member of Tehran City Council added: Most cities in the world, even the metropolises of developed countries, are suffering from common problems and are struggling with them.

The head of the urban planning and architecture commission of the Tehran City Council continued: The priority for municipalities and urban management is to pay attention to people and inclusive cities. Cities that have high resiliency can meet the needs of citizens and life in those cities has a high level of well-being.

Abbasi stated that in this meeting, Tehran preserved its position as the Co- president of the Metropolis and is a member of the board of directors which can be considered a very effective and suitable position for the city and municipality of Tehran at the level of global interactions.
